October 7, 2024

On October 5th, 2024, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at VinUniversity held a memorable series of events to celebrate the achievements of both students and faculty, marking important milestones in their academic and professional journeys. The event included the GME Graduation Ceremony, the White Coat Ceremony for incoming medical students. Together, these celebrations reflected VinUni’s ongoing commitment to excellence in medical education and healthcare leadership development, with a focus on the highest global standards.

The GME Graduation Ceremony: A Milestone for Medical Residents

The day began with the much-anticipated Graduation Ceremony for the first cohort of Graduate Medical Education (GME) residents from the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics programs. This marked a historic moment for VinUni’s residency programs, which have been recognized for their compliance with the international standards set by the ACGME-I (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-International).

Prof.Dr. Tran Van Thuan, the Vice Minister of Health, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of the GME program’s success as a contribution to the national healthcare reform. He highlighted the residents’ critical role in transforming healthcare standards in Vietnam and pointed to VinUni’s leadership in aligning medical education with global practices. “Today marks a significant milestone, not only for the graduating residents but also for the future of healthcare in Vietnam. Your dedication, hard work, and passion will be the foundation of the country’s medical advancements,” he said.

During the ceremony, the residents, after years of intensive study, hands-on training, and research, were awarded their certificates, signifying their transition from learners to professional healthcare providers. Each graduate was lauded not only for their academic accomplishments but also for their commitment to improving healthcare in Vietnam and beyond. Special attention was paid to the collaborative efforts between VinUniversity, Vinmec Healthcare System, and various practical training partners, which provided the residents with high-quality training, research opportunities, and international exposure.

The White Coat Ceremony: Welcoming the Next Generation of Physicians

Following the GME Graduation Ceremony, the White Coat Ceremony was held to welcome new medical students into the medical profession. This iconic ceremony, rich with symbolism, serves as a rite of passage for students entering the medical field. Each student was ceremoniously cloaked in a white coat, a symbol of their commitment to professionalism, empathy, and the ethical practice of medicine.

VinUni’s Vice Dean of Health Sciences, Prof. Le Van Phuoc, addressed the incoming students with an inspiring message about the responsibilities and privileges that come with being a physician. “The white coat you receive today is more than a garment; it is a symbol of the trust placed in you by society. It is a reminder that from this day forward, your journey will be dedicated to the care, comfort, and healing of others. You will carry the hopes of your patients and their families.”

This year’s White Coat Ceremony was particularly special, as it also served as a platform for integrating VinUni’s educational mission into Vietnam’s broader healthcare landscape. The event highlighted the university’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of doctors equipped with both clinical expertise and the empathy necessary to meet the challenges of modern healthcare.

Looking Ahead: VinUni’s Vision for the Future

The October 5th event was not only a celebration of individual and institutional achievements but also a moment of reflection on VinUni’s vision for the future. The university is committed to creating an ecosystem that nurtures future healthcare leaders who will transform the healthcare system in Vietnam. Through its innovative approach to medical education, research, and clinical training, VinUniversity aims to make significant contributions to the healthcare sector, both in Vietnam and globally.
