About the instructor:
Dr Harriet Rumgay, PhD, is an Epidemiologist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), World Health Organization. With over 10 years of experience in cancer data and analysis, she specializes in cancer prevention and the role of modifiable risk factors in the global cancer burden.
Based in the Cancer Surveillance Branch at IARC, Dr Rumgay’s research focuses on quantifying the impact of major risk factors, including alcohol, tobacco, and obesity, on cancer incidence worldwide. Since 2018, she has led work estimating the global burden of alcohol-attributable cancers.
About this workshop:
Alcohol consumption is a major modifiable risk factor for cancer, and alcohol taxation is widely recognized as one of the most effective population-level policy interventions. This workshop will introduce a policy impact modeling framework used to estimate how changes in alcohol taxation may reduce alcohol consumption and prevent cancer burdens.
