OMI SEMINAR 2026: A Bridge Spreading the International Medical Knowledge and Expertise of VinUni Residents

OMI SEMINAR 2026: Vietnamese VinUni Resident Shines on the Global Stage

In 2023, the Open Medical Institute (OMI) and VinUniversity officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) through the VinUni Health Sciences Division, aiming to train and develop elite medical professionals for Vietnam and Southeast Asia. This long-term collaboration is expected to provide structured, internationally standardized training opportunities for doctors in the region, strengthening their expertise and contributing to improved healthcare systems.

At the OMI Seminar 2026 in Salzburg, Austria, 35 fellows from 27 countries gathered. Among them, Dr. Tran Thanh Tin, a 4th-year Internal Medicine resident at VinUni, embarked on a journey of “Breakthrough – Connection – Growth” representing young Vietnamese physicians on the global medical map.

With a remarkable double win — Excellent Case Presentation and Academic ExcellenceDr. Tran Thanh Tin demonstrated that Vietnamese residents are not only capable of integration but also of contributing internationally recognized knowledge and expertise.

Dr.Tin and his prizes

At OMI, the mindset of “make a wild guess” reshaped his approach to medicine. It was not about recklessness, but about daring to confront personal limits, learning from mistakes, and transforming them into professional growth.

Beyond academic knowledge, OMI offered Tin an invaluable asset: connection. He shared how he recently sought expert input from Dr. Foote on a complex colorectal cancer case in Vietnam — a testament to the practical value of this global network.

His achievements opened the door to a short-term clinical observership in Austria, allowing him to deepen his understanding of cancer patient management and modern healthcare systems.

In Salzburg, Tin also found balance — climbing mountains, sharing stories, and embodying VinUni’s spirit: integration without assimilation. His presence highlighted the resilience and confidence of a young Vietnamese doctor thriving in a multicultural environment.

To aspiring applicants for OMI Seminar Vietnam 2026, Tin’s message is clear: “Don’t wait for perfection. The most meaningful opportunities often come when you doubt yourself the most. OMI is not about proving how good you are, but about discovering how far you can go. If you still have a spark of curiosity about the world, give yourself the chance to break through.”
