VinUniversity Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Officially Achieves ACGME-I Accreditation

February 26, 2026

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I) has formally granted program accreditation to the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at VinUniversity. This milestone represents a significant achievement, affirming the program’s adherence to internationally recognized standards and underscoring the University’s capacity to deliver globally integrated, high-quality graduate medical education.

ACGME-I is an international accrediting body that establishes and monitors rigorous standards for postgraduate physician training programs outside the United States. The attainment of Initial Accreditation indicates that the VinUni Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program has met comprehensive requirements across key domains, including program structure, competency-based assessment systems, educational quality, academic environment, faculty development, and patient safety frameworks, in alignment with global best practices.

Previously, in 2024, three VinUniversity residency programs—Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and General Surgery—also achieved ACGME-I accreditation. These accomplishments further strengthen VinUni’s portfolio of internationally accredited residency programs and reaffirm the University’s strategic commitment to advancing academic medicine in accordance with global standards.

Professor, MD, PhD. Tran Trung Dung, Chief Executive Officer of the Vinmec Healthcare System and Program Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program, stated:

“Achieving ACGME-I accreditation provides a critical foundation for the sustainable development of our training model, promotes scholarly activity, expands international collaboration, and enables our graduates to pursue advanced professional development at leading medical centers worldwide. This milestone also contributes significantly to the establishment of an internationally aligned academic medicine system within the Vinmec Healthcare System.”

Graduates of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program are expected to become core contributors to the advancement of academic medicine within Vinmec hospitals and the broader healthcare system in Vietnam. They will play a vital role in standardizing clinical practice, advancing subspecialty development, and fostering an integrated environment that aligns clinical training with research and faculty development.

The implementation of globally recognized accreditation standards ensures that educational quality is systematically evaluated and continuously monitored through transparent and rigorous processes. This, in turn, strengthens the confidence of the medical community and society in the quality of physician training in Vietnam, while elevating the standards and international standing of orthopaedic surgery.
